Workntour
Hospitality / Online Marketplace | 5th Cycle
Workntour connects travelers with hosts, allowing people to offer their skills for a few hours a day, in exchange for accommodation and board while traveling.
Workntour
Detailed presentation
Workntour is an Online Marketplace that aims to revolutionize tourism by connecting tourists and local communities, allowing travelers to offer their time, skills and expertise in exchange for accommodation and board. As such, the hosts can find affordable assistance in a variety of fields, the travelers can cover their basic needs when traveling for longer periods of time, while remote areas and local communities can attract more tourists. Workntour seeks to encourage personal and professional development by making travel accessible to all, to promote the Collaborative Economy, the exchange of Cultures and the “Live like a local” mentality.
The problem
Workntour addresses four (4) problems the tourism industry is facing: Staff shortages, high prices for both travelers and businesses, the need for community immersion and seasonality. Regardless of the influx of global travelers, all European touristic destinations are struggling to find staff in the hospitality sector. In Greece more than 50 thousand jobs remain vacant, in Italy around 250 thousand positions are empty, and the same can be said for both Spain and France. Furthermore, in the Covid-19 era was noted a reduction of profitability in the sector and an increase of operational costs and as such, many businesses are not able to afford professional seasonal workers. At the same time, while millennials and GenZ prefer to travel for longer periods of time seeking to become part of the local communities they are visiting, accommodation costs are getting higher and higher. Additionally, community immersion strategies have not yet been developed.
Our proposal
Workntour is an online marketplace that allows travelers to offer to work for an agreed amount of time per day in exchange for board and accommodation. Simultaneously, the hosts make use of their skills, time and expertise during their stay. Our team will be able to accommodate a variety of hosts ranging from hotels, hostels and campsites to animal shelters and Ski Centers. Concurrently, we will provide the opportunity to our target group of travelers to find affordable accommodation during their travel. Through Workntour and the “working holidays” concept that we embrace: – hosts save money while hosting by having affordable but specialized assistance – travelers save money while traveling by covering their basic needs – travelers are able to interact and give back to the remote areas and the local communities that they visit attract tourists who wish to visit Greece or other Mediterranean countries during winter season.
