Culture App is a virtual tour-guiding platform that creates stories and 3D content for archaeological locations and distributes it through a web platform and an augmented reality mobile app. Our goal is to provide tour guides and cultural travelers with digital tools for the enhancement of their touring experience at the archaeological site and also offer remote virtual tours. Our vision is the dissemination and easier access of the cultural heritage.

The problem

– The partial or complete destruction of the heritage sites makes it difficult for individual travelers to understand their value. – Furthermore, tour guides rely mainly on oral narrative to help travelers understand the value of the archaeological site. – As for those people who wish but, due to constraints (financial, time, health), cannot visit an archaeological site with physical presence, there is no easy way for remote visits that ‘feels real’.

Our proposal

"A web platform called Culture VR that offers a reservation system, digital material (3D models, photos, videos, audio and text) and interactive features for an easy remote virtual tour of the archeological sites. This allows cultural visitors who cannot visit an archeological site with physical presence, to take either remote live-guided tours by tour guides or self-guided tours. At the same time, tour guides benefit by creating a new source of income all throughout the year. An augmented reality mobile application called Culture App for use inside the archeological site. Individual visitors using their mobile devices and the augmented reality technology (A.R.) to gain access to 3D representations of the monuments, with written and audio historical information. Tour guides can also enhance their narrative by using the application’s digital material."

Marina Terzis is the owner of a travel agency and the co-founder and marketing director of Culture App. She holds a PhD degree with merit from the University of the Aegean focusing on Strategic Communication. Marina is an author of several scientific publications and has also attended numerous international conferences. At Culture App she is responsible for the marketing management of the company. In 2021, Marina was offered the postdoctoral researcher position in the Agricultural University of Athens, in the field of strategy communication and the use of dynamic simulation models.

Konstantinos Terzis is the co-founder and director of sales & operations at Culture App. He has 15 years of experience as a health and fitness practitioner, as a vocational training instructor and as a health consultant in the UK and Greece. Konstantinos holds an MSc degree from the University of Wolverhampton. His passion lies in the relationship and interlink of culture, tourism and technology. At Culture App his main responsibilities are the product development and the business operations. Konstantinos has been leading small teams for years and has developed exceptional time management and problem solving skills.
